Owner: Waterfront Development
Construction Manager: AES
Building: 1800’ Bridge Crossing Ohio River
Completion: Winter 2015
Electrical Contract: $1,950,000.00
This is a very special project AES was awarded. Being selected the electrical contractor responsible for installing more than 1,500 lights on an active walking bridge brings great pride. Once completed the bridge will be a destination venue not just for day use but now night activities.
AES scope of work consist of installing more than 1,500 LED Lights, running fiber glass conduit the full length of the bridge and installation of fiber cabling from the the Kentucky base of the bridge to Indiana side.
The Big Four Bridge will soon be decked out in special computerized lighting capable of illuminating the span in patterns of dancing, colorful lighting that will be visible for miles up and down river. Each light should last at least 10 years and require almost no maintenance. The system will include intense spotlights and wide-beam floodlights attached to the steel structure — spaced atop and under the arches and along the deck — as well as flat LEDs placed inside many hollow beams.
The lights also can be programmed to be varied for different occasions, such as green for Saint Patrick's Day or red and green for Christmas. Or, they could have a pattern of red and blue to promote a UK-U of L sporting event or feature pink to promote breast-cancer awareness.
